First Contact - Third Wave - Chapter 343 (Sword Hoof)
[first] [prev] [next] Palgret moved by the robots that had been carrying the female to the shrieking array, noting that they had been ripped apart. They weren't humanoid, like he had expected, but rather were function over form, three front legs with two back legs, five graspers, an upraised fungal-like section with lenses on it that had stuck up from the main chassis. The main rectangular chassis was ripped in half, the legs, armatures, and receptor stalk ripped off the body. While some had clean cuts, the rest of it looked like someone had grabbed the sections, twisted them, and torn them free. He glanced at the Terran who was swinging his arms as if to loosen up the muscles, his rifle on his back. The human wasn't in power armor. True, the armor he was wearing had 'minor power assist' according to what he had been taught. But the endosteel was twisted like chewy candy. Palgret noted that the sole black mantid that had accompanied them was giving the human plenty of space. Even with the IR lamps the passageway was dark and felt closed in to Palgret. He was tall for his species, but still only came up to chest high on the massive human, who outmassed him by a wide margin. Again, the black mantid was slapping detectors on the wall as they moved down the passageway. "They'll be coming up behind us with their next victim," the mantid said over a private channel. "This will give us a little warning." --be warned unlocking human safeties-- 030 put over the command channel. --if we get trouble we have unlocked human-- "Don't worry, if it's cold outside, we'll just detonate this atomic weapon and stay warm the rest of our lives. The plan is genius," the black mantid snickered. "Hell, Captain, if you're going to take off his combat interlocks, why are we here? Can't we go hide with the others?" --at ease that shit sergeant-- 030 said. The black mantid just snickered over the channel. "Will it be safe to fully arm the human?" Mu'ucru'u asked, glancing warily at the armored Terran at the front of the file. "Of course not. He's a Terran," the black mantid said. --we safe enemy not-- 030 said. He put up an image of a woman looking at a sword asking 'is it safe for my children to throw at each other?' and Palgret found himself snickering. They kept moving slowly, pausing at the corners, at any open hatches, at any gaps in the ceiling. Palgret could feel the vibration in the floor. It was faint, but there. Twice 281 stopped and drilled a hole in the wall before inserting a rod affixed to a small transmitter. Just past the halfway point the someone's luck ran out. Two snakelike clankers dropped from a gap in the ceiling, both landing on the Terran, while two others burst from beneath the floor, the endosteel pulling back to reveal that it had been a hidden hatch. The human had grabbed one snake, twisting his hands and pulling it into two separate sections, but the two from under the floor had grabbed his legs, pulling him toward them, but not managing to budge the big armored human. Two others lunged from side passages that the hatches lowered into the floor, grabbing the human's arms. All of them pulled in different directions and Palgret expected to see the Terran dismembered right in front of him as they all yanked with robotic strength. Palgret was looking right at the human, and for as long as he lived he would never forget what happened. The human gave a sudden bestial roar, bending forward slightly, pulling his arms from the clanker's grip (one of the clanker's arms tore away at the shoulder), wrapping his arms around his stomach. Black mist poured out suddenly around him and he gave a roaring cry of sheer agony. Palgret saw the armor widen, the articulated plates of the matte black armor shifting as the human's back widened to nearly twice the width. Palgret could see the massive muscle definition as the Terran's arms and legs suddenly got thicker, the shoulders grew to massive size, and the Terran increased to about triple the mass. It roared loudly, and shook its head, and Palgret had the image seared into his mind of bared meat tearing teeth with blood running down the Terran's chin, burning red eyes below a heavy bone armored brow. Spikes, bone white, pushed from beneath the armor, a red diamond appeared on the Terran's back, on his upper biceps. The two snakes were torn apart, literally ripped into chunks, by the black mist as the Terran screamed in agony. Arcs of purple and orange electricity snaked around the human's body, coursing into the floor, as the Terran stood up. Palgret noticed he was at least a third against as tall as he'd been. "STA-" Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u started to yell. The human reached out, grabbing the clanker on his right and snatching it straight into his grasp. He started ripping pieces off of the clanker with his bare hands. "ND" The Terran turned and smashed one of the clankers up out of the floor with the corpse of the first one even as two other snakes fell in slow motion from the ceiling onto the Terran. "FA" The Terran grabbed the other one, lightning fast, the first snatching grab pulling the clanker's arm off, the second one the Terran's fingers sank into the battlesteel armor of the clanker like it was wet clay, and it ripped the clanker from its spot in the hatch, holding it close like they were lovers. The Terran bit off the Clanker's head. ST" The Terran lifted the body of the clanker and ripped it in half, throwing the halves to each side. Someone got off a shot that missed everything, bouncing and howling down the hallway. The Terran grabbed the one in the hatch on the floor, the last remaining one, pulling it up into the air and ripping limbs off, even as the snakes writhed and started breaking apart from the black mist and the lightning. Palgret's armor recorded a sudden temperature drop even as frost covered the endosteel corridor around the Terran. "MEN!" the Lieutenant managed to get out. The human slowly straightened up, the matte black of the armor that looked like it had become a second skin drinking in the light. --check check-- 030 sent. Palgret was a little shakey when he tabbed his green tab, letting his squad leader know he was all right. The Terran just stood there, breathing heavy. Palgret let go of his rifle and shook his hands out, first the left, then the right. He'd been squeezing his rifle so hard his hands were aching despite his gauntlets. "What... what happened to him?" Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u asked, his voice trembling slightly less then his mouth tendrils. "Full combat mode, Terran Heavy Assault Infantry," the black mantid said. "He's our team heavy weapons specialist," the mantid turned away as if that explained everything. "Gotta be big to handle the big guns, man." --cybernetic heavy assault infantry comma monster series comma man sized comma one each-- 030 sent. Mu'ucru'u nodded, closing all six eyes and swallowing. He'd heard it a couple dozen times over the last couple of days and he'd never really thought about it. The Terran might look normal, but he was anything but. Palgret just tabbed up a piece of stimgum and began chewing on it. He noticed that Culvit gave the now hulking Terran a bit more lead. Palgret couldn't really blame the other trooper, just looking at him for too long made Palgret's head ache. The passageway ended in a door that the big Terren just sunk his fingers into and ripped out of the frame, the endosteel screeching as it bent and warped like soft clay. Beyond the door light was provided by soft red, green, and blue lights that barely illuminated around them. Bubbling tanks of fluid held parts of Maktanan and Carikan bodies, all of them the head was mostly intact, the scalp and brain peeled back to expose the brain, with barbed probes stuck deeply into the brain tissue. Palgret noticed all the ones he could see, all thirty of them, that were facing him, had their eyes open, their mouths open as they silently screamed, opening and close their mouths as they begged inside the liquid, their faces contorted with agony. Nanuft gave a cry of horror and lifted his rifle, cocking his under-barrel grenade launcher. Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u smacked the Maktanan's weapon down with a single slap of his armored hand. "No. You'll give us away," the Lanaktallan snapped. --hold fast-- 030 transmitted. --281 recon sergeant caldo check life status sergeant purohit stand by tp repel enemy counter assaults-- "Yes, sir," the black mantid said, scurrying sideways at the equipment. --everyone else pick exit keep watch eyes peeled fingers on triggers-- 030 said. "Everyone take cover. Use the Terran reflex triggers, the AWM's can move faster than you can react," Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u ordered. Pelgrat crouched down behind a solid block of endosteel that vibrated slightly and did who knows what. He checked his ammo status, ensured he had a high explosive armor defeating round loaded in his underslung grenade launcher, and took a long drink off of the fluid system. He used his eyes to carat the doorway he was guarding, activating the reflex trigger. It would use the exoskeleton system built into his armor to move his arms to bring his weapon into play and fire it faster than his brain would even register that the clanker was there. He took another sip of the drink. He had to admit, the taste was growing on him. After a few minutes the Terran prowled by, much too quiet for something of that mass. His red eyes glowed in the dark and Pelgrat would swear he saw blood running down the Terran's chin. The edges of some of the spikes had softly glowing purple nimbus that trailed away like vapor. All in all, the effect was unsettling. The tiny Captain riding on his shoulder had his weapon ready, looking around. Palgret had to admit the idea of a being that small being an officer in the Terran military was surprising to say the least. Still, he wasn't going to complain. Time dragged on till the black mantid ran up. Palgret noted again that the mantid ran really weird, his body lower to the ground than normal, maybe a handspan above the endosteel floor, his knees actually higher than his abdomen. --report-- 030 said. "I'd need full trauma team to save them if we pulled them. They've all suffered massive tissue lost, extreme trauma, and the clanker didn't exactly approach jamming their brains full of data rods with any thought toward surviving being decanted," the black mantid said. The helmet unfolded and it took out another cigarette. "Be better to mercy them." --transmitting standy by-- 030 said. 281 hurried up and Palgret faintly heard the datasqueal between the two green mantids. The black mantid turned and looked at Palgret. "You doing all right, trooper?" the black mantid asked, lighting the cigarette. Palgret nodded slowly. "You're doing good, just keep your head on your shoulders," the black mantid said. The Terran prowled by, bestial looking. "First time seeing that?" the black mantid asked. Pelgrat nodded, chewing on the stimgum, waiting for the hair over his spine and around his neck to lay back down. "Startling as hell when they do that," the black mantid chuckled. "They don't make them like him any more." "Why... why not?" Pelgrat asked, having to swallow after the first word. His throat was drier than he thought. "Mar-gite war's over," the mantid said. "Those spikes keep a Mar-gite from attaching. He's all bioware and cyberware with about 5% original. Hell, he's even got wetware brain implants." "Why?" Pelgrat asked, suddenly interested. "To fight," the black mantid said, as if that answered the whole thing. Maybe it does, Palgret thought to himself. --blow array dig in reinforcements in two zero mikes-- 030 said. "But... but what about the people?" Jagler asked. --pray for them they already dead-- 030 said. "I can see her! She's still..." Culvit started to protest. "She's dead, trooper!" Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u snapped. "But..." Nanuft started. "She's dead!" the LT's voice held the whip-crack of command. "Get it together." --281 wire it up-- 030 ordered. --blow in place dig in-- Palgret agreed with the Lieutenant. He could see several of the Maktanan in the tanks, slowly writhing. They could be saved, if a trauma unit was right there, fully equipped. But they were inside a clanker the size of a small city. Three miles wide, a half mile thick. And wired into a shrieking array. They're doomed, it's just a matter of what they are doomed too, Palgret thought to himself, turning away from where he could see a male Carikan writhing in agony. Better the demo charge than this. "Armored Matthias shield these poor souls from the torment they have endured and guard them from further suffering, Chromium Peter bless them and take them into thine arms, Enraged Phillip, grant them thy mercy," the black mantid said quietly. "In the Digital Omnimessiah's name, end of line." The silence dragged on for long moments. "They'll come straight at us as soon as we blow this up," Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u said. --yes-- "Is that part of the plan?" the Lanaktallan asked. He wasn't afraid, he just wanted to know. He'd come to understand, during the training to learn to work together, that once Terran Confederate Military Forces were deployed, they were committed. He could appreciate commitment like that. --yes-- 030 said. --shelter under attack we blow array forces 30-62.56% break off to assault us-- "There are few of us. Do you think we can withstand them for the," the LT checked his chronometer, "ten minutes until our reinforcements arrived." The Terran prowled by, thick arms swinging slowly, spiked knuckles glowing softly, eyes red, a growl more felt then heard trailing after it. Captain 030 pointed at the human with one bladearm, looking at Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u. "I see your point," the LT said. "Red eyes at fight, enemies take fright," the black mantid said. Palgret could tell it wasn't a joke. The other black mantid moved up, 281 sitting on the mantid's armored abdomen. "Charges wired, sir," was all the mantid said. "281 welded shut the doorways but that one so we'll have some warning," the mantid pointed at the one doorway that Palgret was guarding. --get everyone into position-- 030 said. --i will blow charges-- "I can do it," Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u said. --i lead i take responsibility for Lima Niner Eight Actual-- 030 refused. The Lanaktallan was silent a long moment, then slowly nodded. "All troops report green when in cover and ready," the LT said. Palgret checked his weapon again, glanced around, then shifted his crouch slightly. He chinned the green tab. --fire in the hole-- 030 said. The charges went off, not with the shattering explosion that Palgret had expected, but the slow dull crump of an inversion charge on high speed, with the sucking sound as air rushed into the space. The entire inside of the Djinn seemed to hold its breath. "Many sources coming at high speed," the black mantid that had been setting the wall sensors said softly. --get ready-- 030 said. "The Terran is immune to your fire. Do not be afraid to clear enemies off of him with your weapon. Do not fear engaging an enemy with the Terran on the other side," Lieutenant Mu'ucru'u ordered. "Big corn fed fucker could take on a main battle wagon," the black mantid said, flicking away his cigarette. He closed his helmet. "Time to let the guests know we've got plenty of party favors." --get ready-- 030 repeated. The sound of oncoming clankers was faint, but audible. Palgret took a pull of his drink tube and licked his suddenly dry lips. His tongue still felt dry. --get ready-- 030 said. The sound was louder. The human moved up next to Palgret. Palgret glanced over and saw the big Terran make a fist, lightning snarling on his knuckles. --steady men-- Red eyes, dozens of them, could be seen in the passage. "Here they come," the talkative black mantid said. 281 lifted up his rocket launcher. --OPEN FIRE, RED DEVILS-- [first] [prev] [next]

(5) Was müsste passieren damit du deine Meinung änderst?
[PSX][late 90s] 3D platformer that is driving me crazy
• Platform: can be either PSX, PS2, N64 or Dreamcast • Genre: Platformer − possibly labeled as action/adventure • Year of release: between 1996 ~ 2003 • Graphics: colorful or cartoony, 3D scenario and third person camera ➞ Not: side-scroller, 2.5D, isometric, RPG, racing, shooter, fighting, futuristic, realistic, dark • Character: a terrestrial animal or creature, with no particular skills • Details: I remember a level from this game, probably the first one: a green field or meadow in a sunny day, maybe there's a stone/dirt path in the middle where your character can walk (...) There are some rolling/moving obstacles which I think are big spike balls − or something similar (...) The level itself is kinda linear − I'm not sure if you can free roam or the movement it's restricted to a path. Also, the meadow is wide, not like the typical closed forest/jungle corridor featured in other games (...) There probably are some enemies. On the other hand, I don't remember any friendly NPCs (...) If I recall correctly, you start at a slightly elevated part of the meadow. Let me add that this is probably a simple game (like Kao the Kangaroo for example), lacking a deep story or sidequests. • Levels from other games that look similar ➞ This one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one (but not side-scroller) That's all the info I can provide. I know it's difficult to find a particular rare game. I played this one when I was a kid and never seen it again. I managed to find some childhood games for my friends but definitely not this one haha. But I haven't lost hope! Note: after reading some nice suggestions from users, I totally consider that this game could be unlicensed, imported, just a demo, or even PAL-exclusive. I mean, I don't think it is a typical well-known platformer after all. I feel so guilty when people suggest good games that kinda fit the description and my answer is "that's not the one". I really hope this is not a false memory 😓 Thanks for reading! ————— • Games already checked − sorted A-Z 40 Winks, A Bug's Life, Adiboo & Paziral's Secret, An American Tail, Animaniacs, Anubis 2, Ape Escape series, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Barbie: Explorer, Billy Hatcher, Billy The Wizard, Blasto, Blinx series, Blues Brothers 2000, Brave Fencer Musashi, Bubsy 3D, Bug!, Bugdom, Bugs Bunny series, Castleween, Chameleon Twist series, Charlie Blasts Territory, Chicken Little, Cocoto Platform Jumper, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Coraline, Crash Bandicoot series, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Croc 2, Daffy Duck: Duck Dodgers, Dino and Aliens, Dinosaur, Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers, Donkey Kong 64, Dreams into Reality, Dr. Muto, Earthworm Jim 3D, Floating Runner, Frogger series, Fur Fighters, Garfield: Saving Arlene, Gex the Gecko series, Gift, Glover, Herdy Gerdy, Hogs of War, Hugo/Agent Hugo, i-Ninja, Indiana Jack, Jak and Daxter series, Jersey Devil, Jet Force Gemini, Jinx, Jumping Flash, Kao the Kangaroo, Kingsley's Adventure, Klonoa, Kya: Dark Lineage, Legend of Kay, Lilo & Stitch, Looney Tunes, MDK2, Madagascar, Malice, MediEvil, Mischief Makers, Monsters Inc.: Scare Island, Mort the Chicken, Muppet Monster Adventure, Mystical Ninja Goemon, Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, Nights into Dreams, Ninpen Manmaru, Pac-Man World series, Pandemonium series, Phix: The Adventure, Pitfall, Prince of Persia series, Psychonauts, Quest 64, Rascal, Ratchet & Clank, Rayman series, Rocket: Robot on Wheels, Rosso Rabbit in Trouble, Scaler, Scooby Doo, Sheep Raider, Sly Cooper, Sonic series, Space Circus Fever, Space Station Silicon Valley, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Spyro series, Starshot, Stitch: Experiment 626, Stretch Panic, Super Magnetic Neo, Super Mario 64, T'ai Fu, Tail Concerto, Tak and the Power of Juju, Taz Express, Taz Wanted, The Adventures of Cookie & Cream, The Emperor's New Groove, The Grinch, The Land Before Time, The Lion King, The Smurfs, Tigger's Honey Hunt, Tomba 2, Tonic Trouble, Tork: Prehistoric Punk, Toy Story series, Treasure Planet, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series, Vexx, Woody Woodpecker, Yoshi's Story, Zapper
I've played a good handful of games, and wanted to give some quick impressions for anybody who isn't sure where to start (and I encourage anybody to reply with their own micro-reviews)! Ghostrunner It's a cyberpunk Hotline Miami with Titanfall's parkour. This is easily one of my favorites, so far, and I definitely plan to pick this up at some point. I had issues using WASD for some of the platforming segments, but the action parts were fluid and intensely fun. You run on walls, you slice through enemies - you feel like a robot ninja. Also the graphics are slick. Highly recommended! Webbed It's a physics-based spider game, where you can build webs and shoot lasers from your eyes (yes, really)! You can build webs pretty much as you want to navigate the game's cute bug world. You really feel like a spider, man! The demo has you pretty much just playing with the core web mechanics, and helping your bug friends with some tasks. It seems like a really chill game to just relax and play. Highly recommended! Demon Turf It's a 3D platformer that takes place in hell, with a sort of punk feel to it. Kinda gives me Jet Set Radio vibes, purely in terms of the story's feel and not gameplay. However it is hindered by a ton of technical issues. The settings menu is hit or miss whether it will work at all. Most notably, camera invert-y didn't work at all for me. Normally, this would just make a game annoying or difficult to play for me, but there are core abilities in-game which rely on the camera angle, so that's kind of huge. Additionally the performance was really bad. I have a pretty beefy PC, and the framerate dropped to ~45FPS pretty frequently, and the game has a graphical quality comparable to Sonic Adventure 2. With that said, I would still like to see how it develops. If they hammer out the technical issues, I'd definitely give it another go. Not recommended, wait for performance fixes Pumpkin Jack This one was probably my biggest letdowns here. The game certainly has a good personality, good visuals, good performance, but the gameplay just doesn't cut it. The controls are very stiff, and I would not recommend keyboard and mouse for this at all. It has gamepad support, but just barely. Air control is very limited, making certain jumps very difficult; you pretty much have to commit to your trajectory before you get off the ground. There are segments with rotating platforms which are more a test of waiting than platforming, because they are so slow. And even if those things get fixed, the game is mind-numbingly simple and easy to the point where I wasn't having fun. Collectables are barely hidden, enemies aren't remotely challenging, and platforming is only ever difficult because of its controls. The audio-visual part of the game was pretty great, but it needs core game design improvements. Not recommended, unfortunately Tokoyo: The Tower of Perpetuity Don't even waste your time with this one. Bad visuals, bad performance, bad game design, bad audio, bad controls. DO NOT TOUCH Skellboy This one definitely has a good personality. The visuals have some Paper Mario vibes, and is apparently multiplayer. It's a cute little action game where you are a skeleton who can swap out your body parts for those dropped by monsters, with varying effects. Skellboy didn't blow my mind, and the soundtrack got annoying pretty fast, but I had some fun while it lasted. I could see myself picking this up during a sale. Recommended. Gloomwood Just gonna start by saying this is probably my favorite demo so far, but that's because I love the old-school Thief games. Glomwood is a stealth game with a late 90's PC game graphical style, set in a horror-themed city reminiscent of Victorian London. There's a light meter to show how visible you are, and different floor surfaces produce different levels of sound, and you can move bodies to hide them from other hostiles. There's more of an emphasis on combat, it seems, as your starting tools are a sword and gun, and no noticeable penalty for violence. The choice to go with an old-school visual direction also benefits the game design, in that it sort of streamlines the experience, keeping level design flexibly utilitarian, and keeping the game mechanics as the main focus. Highly recommended! Morbid: The Seven Acolytes It's a pixel art, top-down soulslike. Honestly, I found it kind of bland. The main appeal for these sorts of games, at least for me, is the combat and exploration, and I didn't have much fun with either. It suffers from a lot of pet peeves, like the lack of incentive not to just run past enemies, invisible hitboxes that reach much farther than the animation, bad telegraphing, unavoidable damage, damage sponge enemies, and for some reason the two attack buttons are mapped to X and B which are on the opposite side of the face buttons. Walking speed is *insanely slow, too, so you want to run anywhere you go - but the caveat is that running also consumes your stamina, so you can't just keep running. I didn't enjoy it, but I can see somebody maybe liking it? I didn't like it, but you might?
Some (really) Random Details from a Guy who's played the Game Four Times.
PROLOGUE
The last time we see Joel, he is literally riding off into the Sunset.
In Ellie's Bedroom we can find such Details as: A Playstation 3 with Copies of Uncharted 2 and Jak & Daxter, Ellie's Joke Book from TLOU1 - No Pun Intended, Sam's Toy Robot from TLOU1, Joel's Moth Emblem Guitar, a Blazing Bliss Poster (a Band Ellie will reference with Dina during the Music Shop in Downtown), a few loose Trading Cards (specifically the 3 you can find during Ellie's Flashback Sequences), a Selfie of Ellie, Dina and Jesse, a Photo of Cat (Ellie's Ex) designing a Tattoo, drawings of Shimmer, a Moth and Dina, a Photo of Joel and Tommy on their Horses and an Easel.
After Abby falls during the Prologue Chapter "The Chalet" she will comment "fuck, my Shoulder" obviously hurting it in the process. After this Event, one of Abby's Ambient Animations when you play as her is of her rubbing and twisting her Shoulder.
Alternate Theory (provided by jokham): Due to Abby's aggressive Training Schedule, her Muscles are constantly sore, as a result she is often rubbing and stretching them, even on Off Days.
When Ellie is exploring Joel's House she won't pick up a single Picture of herself, most likely due to the Guilt of not being able to prevent Joel's Death. However, when she picks up the Drawing she did of Joel, you can see her Hands shaking slightly, same when she puts it down. This is a common Symptom of PTSD and one that has been shown throughout the entire Life Cycle of the Game, including here, the Original Teaser Trailer, and when Ellie returns to the Theater after Torturing Nora in Chapter 2 (Credit: u/Da_nigatar)
ELLIE DAY 1
Dina shares a few Jokes with Ellie during their Time in Downtown, including 2 related to Shimmer, in response to the Second Joke: "Shimmer says we should go find a Bakery, so we can go get some Thorough-Bread", Ellie will respond "I've created a Monster. This is a nice little reference to how Ellie was obsessed with Jokes in Game 1, to the point of having a Joke Book, and it is likely that Ellie and Dina's close Relationship/Friendship meant that she passed many of these down to Dina, or at least inspired Dina to tell/make up Jokes of her own, hence the Line "I've created a Monster".
During Chapter "Downtown" the Player can see the Convention Center, as well as the Fire Escape and River that Ellie falls into during Day 2 Chapter "The Seraphites".
During "Downtown", whilst at Barko's, Dina reminisces about two feral cats she used to have as pets before she moved to Jackson, and comments thats she would like to “raise a little creature together” when they go back to Wyoming. In reality, Dina wasn't referencing a pet, but her baby, and was likely gauging Ellie’s reaction to the Idea of raising it together (Credit: https://www.sofistake.com/blogs/4-storytelling-elements-that-make-tlou2-a-masterpiece)
During "Downtown" Dina will often rub or hold her Belly, usually when Ellie isn't looking, this is a subtle nod to the reveal later that Dina is Pregnant.
During "Downtown" Ellie explains to Dina how the Military bombed Quarantine Zones to rid the Areas of Infected and, sometimes, Looters. An idea Tess originally taught Ellie in the First Game. This is a small nod to how Ellie is influenced by People she cared for who are now gone, as well as showing how Ellie has matured between Part 1 and 2, in a sense going from Student to Teacher (Credit: https://www.sofistake.com/blogs/4-storytelling-elements-that-make-tlou2-a-masterpiece)
During "Capitol Hill" you can hear a WLF Solider complain about "those fucking Burritos" (Credit: tacotruckrevolution).
During "The Birthday Gift", Joel will comment that a certain Dinosaur Skull "Kinda looks like Tommy". If you shine your Flashlight at the Skull at just the right Angle, the Shadow will create whats looks very similar to the Profile of a Man with Long Hair and a Beard, much like Tommy.
ELLIE DAY 2
The Savage Starlight Comic Book Joel and Ellie discuss during the Finding Strings Flashback has an eerie foreshadowing moment where Character Daniella Starr lets her sworn Enemy live at the End. (Credit: Cyborg14)
During "Finding Strings", Joel is always the one to go through Doorways, Passages and Corners first (unless Ellie is squeezing through somewhere to unlock a door and let him in). He’s always one step ahead. It conveys a sense of extreme protectiveness towards Ellie, of being alert to any Potential Threats ahead and being the first to have to confront them, even though Ellie is immune and he isn’t. This is different to how Ellie will act with other NPCs such as Dina or Jesse (Credit: https://www.sofistake.com/blogs/4-storytelling-elements-that-make-tlou2-a-masterpiece)
During Ellie Day 2 Chapter "The Seraphites" when you first get to the Convention Center (before going inside) and can see the Hospital in the Distance, the Area below you is the Downtown Area from Day 1. You can see the Westlake Bank, the Firetruck on the Freeway, and the Seraphite Skybridge, all from this Panoramic.
You can see the Area you fight the first WLF Patrol with Jesse during Ellie Day 3 in Ellie Day 2 Chapter "The Seraphites" right after passing through the Pharmacy at the start of the Chapter (before the Convention Center). It's blocked off by Trees etc. but the Distinctive Archway is still visible.
The Song you can hear when Climbing through the Vents in the Hospital as Ellie is "It Was a Good Day" by Ice Cube. Ironic given what is about to happen to Nora.
After that Scene with Nora in the Basement, when Ellie returns to the Theater, she will refuse to look at herself in the Mirror when you take control. No matter how hard you try, she will always look away. When Ellie goes to Joel's house after his funeral she can't bare to look at herself in the Mirror there either. It's not until the Farm when Ellie is playing with JJ in front of the mirror, and post Santa Barbara that she can begin to look at herself again. This apparently an accurate symptom of PTSD (Credit to u/Thebuttking and mbattagl)
ELLIE DAY 3
Most People know that "Bear" the Dog you play Fetch with as Abby on Day 1, can be found during the Hospital Stealth Sequence as Ellie. But if you don't kill Bear during this Chapter, the Doggo can also be found during Ellie Day 3 when Jesse and Ellie run into the WLF Patrol right before the Shopping Complex.
During Ellie Day 3 Chapter "Infiltration", the Space Needle is clearly visible after Ellie gets knocked off her Boat and swims to Shore. After getting out the Water, turn around for a clear view.
During Chapter "Infiltration" you can find Boxes of Mel and Owen's Stuff near their Sleeping Bags. Contents include the Toy Bow, Christmas Decorations and Stockings from Abby's Winter Flashback and Art Supplies Owen used to create the Salt Lake Mural (Credit: u/Dat_Bokeh).
ABBY DAY 1
When Abby finds her Dad we see Owen and another Man standing over the Body. This is Manny without a Beard. This also links to how Manny's Dad asks Abby "would you please tell him to get rid of this [Beard]" during the Stadium Chapter, as Manny has only grown his Beard recently (Credit: Cyborg14)
When you’re exploring the hospital as Ellie, you can enter Jerry’s office and see that he has two Jazz Concert Posters hanging on the wall above the Couch. Later on, when you first take control of Abby in the Stadium, you see she has those same Posters tucked away above her Bed—which either means she went back to the hospital for them after Ellie was there, or she happens to have her own similar copies of them (Credit: Cyborg14).
The Books Abby has on her Bookshelf all have subtle Themes or Connections to either her Story or the Story at large. "Monte Cristo", for example, is a classic revenge tale against an innocent Man. Additionally, the Book she is reading when she wakes up in the Library (City of Thieves) is one of the original inspirations for Part 1 and has a main character named Lev (Credit: Cyborg14) Here's a screenshot of her bookshelf if you're interested!
During the Stadium Chapter on Abby Day 1 you can see the Crew for the School including Jordan who talks to you, as well as Mike, the man who argues with Jordan about shooting Ellie (and is shot by Dina) sitting behind him at the Table, playing Backgammon with a fellow Soldier.
The Girl Manny talks about sleeping with at the Start of Abby Day 1 'The Scientist' (Manny: "ask her about the Cumulus Clouds") was hired by Isaac to predict the Storm that Isaac will use on Day 3 to invade the Seraphite Island. You can hear Manny talk about her being "down from the Mountain", as she was up there to get better readings on the Weather.
During Abby Day 1 Chapter "The Stadium", when you first exit the Stadium on the Truck, look directly to your Left, towards the Main City where the Highrise Buildings are, the Skybridge is clearly visible.During Abby Day 1 "Hostile Territory", the Skybridge is again clearly visible when standing on the Roof with Manny watching the Sunset.
After the Seraphite Ambush, yous see Mel tending to a Soldier who was shot in the hand. As he's being patched up, he laments to his physician about losing a Finger, and the Physician cheekliy Replies that you only really need Three anyways. Which is potentially Foreshadowing to the End of the Game.
During Abby Day 1 Chapter "The Forward Base" you can hear many Interesting Conversations, such as WLF Members discussing collecting Boats (for the Seraphite Assault), the same Group discussing how "Nick went to get Gas from Serevena Base" (Nick is one of the People Ellie finds dead at Serevena) and a Radio Operator commenting how the "School's gone quiet" (obviously because Ellie and Dina are there).
During the same Chapter, you can go visit Alice at the Dog Pens for an Optional Conversation.
Owen plays the trick of "I found something, but you're gonna have to follow me to see it" twice. Once during the Prologue when they find Jackson, and once during the Aquarium Flashback.
You can slide down the Handrail, just like Owen does, during the First Aquarium Flashback, by pressing Jump next to it.
When first finding the Aquarium in the Abby flashback, if you swim around in the water between the Stage and Sailboat, Owen will laugh and ask if you’re supposed to be an otter Credit: 31renrub)
Owen calling the Aquarium a "Fish Zoo" may be a subtle reference/nod to the Fact that, as Fireflies, Abby, Owen and crew lived next to the Zoo in Salt Lake, and would often interact with it. The is further strengthened by that Fact that Owen paints a Salt Lake Hospital Mural on the Walls of the Aquarium's Main Room. This can be seen during the Second Winter Flashback, with Abby and Owen at the Aquarium.
Manny has a Sex Den, you can find it right at the start of Abby Day 1 "Hostile Territory" before jumping down to Ground Level. Make sure you explore all of the Building's Floors you start ontop of, you'll find it (Here's a Video: https://youtu.be/9HpiaUANMi8.) (Credit to Nacksche for the Link!).
ABBY DAY 2
Lev telling Abby how "the Prophet wouldn't want any of this" when talking about how Violent and Barbaric the Scars have become after their Leader died is a nice parallel to how Joel would most likely be against all the Pain and Suffering Ellie has caused on her Pursuit of Revenge in Seattle for Joel's Murder. Joel in many ways being Ellie's Mentor and Ellie being his "follower".
From the Skybridge Proper you can see: The Ferris Wheel and the Aquarium (Behind), the Space Needle (Left, Shilouette between the Skyscrapers in the distance), the Synagogue (Left), Serevena Base (Left Front), the Back of Westlake Bank (Left Front), other random sections of Downtown (Left Front), the FOB (Right Front, but not 100% on this one), the Clocktower you can see during Abby Day 1 Chapter "Hostile Territory" (Right, but not 100% on this one), and most obviously, The Hospital.
When Swimming towards the Hospital as Abby, if you turn towards your Right before getting out the Water you will see the Route Ellie took when she was approaching the Hospital herself, including a view of Westons Pharmacy in the Background.
When you reach the Hospital grounds Abby is told that "[Nora] just left with the last Transport". This is actually the Boat you saw leave moments ago before dropping into the Water and if you look carefully, you can see Nora on the Boat as it leaves.
When at the Hospital there are a few interesting Optional Conversations, such as 2 Wolves discussing the Rumour that Owen shot Danny (which Abby will interrupt if you choose and tell the Wolves to not spread Rumours) as well as the chance to pet Bear, who is Sat over by the Medical Tent to the Right.
ABBY DAY 3
The Voices you can hear on the Radio when Infiltrating the Theater as Abby who report on Isaac's Death are Hailey Gross and Neil Druckmann.
THE FARM
During Ellie's Chapter "The Farm", the Jacket Ellie wears when Packing up to head to Santa Barbara is Joel's Old Jacket.
Similarly, during the same Chapter, Artwork from Joel's House in Chapter "Packing Up" (Prologue) can be see in Ellie's House.
SANTA BARBARA
Abby switches over to using Owen’s backpack in Santa Barbara after losing hers on the Seraphite Island (Credit: Cyborg14)
LOCATIONS Pretty much every Place in TLOU2 are Real (obviously), but some have slightly altered Names:
Lakehill Hospital is Harborview Medical Center.
Hotel Serevena (Serevena Base) is Hotel Sorrento.
Pilgrim Park (Chapter "The Seraphites") is Pioneer Park. If the Player goes on Google Streetview, they can see the Park and Parking Garage featured in the E3 Demo.
Hillcrest is the Real-life Seattle Neighbourhood Madrona (Credit: batteryacidangel)
The Channel 13 News Station is Seattle's King 5 News Station (Credit: batteryacidangel)
Impressions: New demos on PSN- Angry shirtless man beats up robots and oversexed pink furry chick hits stuff with a floating sword. Aletheia's Herald is there.
[Cryoverse] The Last Precursor 027: A Hero's Return
The Last Precursor is an HFY-exclusive web-serial which focuses on the exploits of the last living human amidst a galaxy of unknown aliens. With his species all but extinct and now only known as the ancient Precursors, how will Admiral José Rodriguez survive in this hostile universe? Make sure to read the earlier chapters first if you missed them! Do you like the story? Subscribe to HFY bot and get notified when I post new parts!
Previous Part Part 001 ....................................... José Rodriguez, the last Precursor, stands alone before an army of creatures lurking within the darkness. However, the Terran doesn't flinch or feel even a hint of fear. Not only does he have the full confidence of surviving an engagement with them, he even recognizes their identities. The largest creature, a thirty-meter-tall quadruped, snarls at him with malicious intent. Its pitch-black fur and wolf-like face gives it the unmistakable identity of a Hellhound, a creature once thought to be extinct by all of Terrankind. Amidst its two 'primary' eyes, forty-eight others open up around them, revealing fifty eyes in total, all fixated upon the Terran's comparatively tiny figure. To the Hellhound's right and left, countless smaller bipeds clutch primitive clubs, knives, and spears. Their moldy-green skin and leathery animal-fur clothing gives them similar appearances, but José clearly notes the distinction between the two-foot-tall and seven-foot-tall bipeds. Goblins and orcs. Much like the Hellhound, all of these creatures come from an era so ancient that José has never personally seen them in the flesh. However, thanks to battling them in combat simulations, as well as his years of dedicated study within Ramma's Archives, he knows their appearances well. "Tch. You should have all gone extinct long ago," José growls. "Guess I'll have to deliver the killing blow myself." One particularly brave goblin darts out from the crouching horde and charges at the Terran. Its hideous face and bulging eyes widen as it rushes at the towering human. "Death to all fleshbags!" Its wanton cry ignites the fires of hatred within the hearts of all the other creatures. Immediately after, the Hellhound, orcs, and goblins charge at José, bloodlust in their eyes. It only takes the first goblin two seconds to reach its Terran adversary. Right as it jumps at him to stab his leg with a two-foot-long spear, José rears his leg back, then kicks the Goblin right in the head. The goblin's skull instantly shatters under José's dominating might. It flies backward and crashes onto the ground, only for its body to end up trampled underfoot by the rushing horde. Seeing the charge of a thousand enemies, José maintains his cool. He takes aim with his rifle and squeezes the trigger, causing his gun to charge its attack for a split-second before firing. Thoom! A heavily ionized explosive munition fires into the crowd. It detonates to the right of the Hellhound, killing fifteen goblins and three orcs with a flash of green bio-devouring light. Their bodies instantly evaporate into nothingness, while still more enemies charge through the newly opened gap. Thoom! Thoom! Thoom! Over and over, José retreats a few steps while firing charged blasts into the approaching army. Each detonation wipes out the biological life in its explosion radius, yet doesn't affect the floors, the walls, or the metal parts of their clothing and weapons. Still, it doesn't take long before José's enemies catch up to and pounce at him, aiming for all of his vital areas at the same time. Right before José perishes to the teeth and weapons of his blood-crazed foes... Foop! The Terran vanishes. Stunned, the horde of monsters trips over themselves trying to figure out where he went, only for a humming sound to rumble above their heads. They look upward and spot José with his feet gravitically attached to the ceiling, and his rifle aimed at the biggest, juiciest cluster of monsters. Thoom! Another blast of bio-devouring energy catapults from his gun's barrel and flies into the horde, but this time, more than fifty monsters perish to its tyrannical might. Their bodies vanish from existence, as a force comparable to a black hole swallows them up, never to be seen again. By the time the monsters realize what's happened, José has already prepared another shot. Thoom! Thoom! The monsters scramble away, some of them hurling javelins at José's position, while the goblins specifically leap onto the walls and scurry up the sides, using their unparalleled wall-crawling abilities to rush the lone human. "Stinking fleshbag!" An orc roars. "Fight me one on one like real man!" "Yeah! Stop run away, big coward!" As countless goblins swarm along the walls and ceiling toward's José's position, the Terran pauses for a moment to think. If it were only me here, clearing out these monsters would only be a matter of time. However, I'm not alone. I have to take Megla and the Kessu into consideration. Megla can't possibly protect all of them by herself. I need to draw all of these monsters' focus to me, and me alone. Otherwise... I don't want to imagine what will happen. The Admiral's eyes flicker toward the nearest half-dozen goblins skittering toward him. Right before they can reach him, José disappears. Foop! He teleports again, arriving at an empty spot on the wall not far away. His glowing body attracts the monsters' attention as all of them easily pick him out of the darkness. Thoom! Thoom! José slaughters another sixty orcs and goblins, only to flinch in surprise as the Hellhound pounces at him from below! "Shit!" With his teleportation module temporarily on cooldown, the Admiral can't dodge. He drops his gun, braces his legs and lunges out with both of his arms. The Hellhound snaps its jaws on him, intending to bite him off the wall, but it gets far more than it bargained for when the Admiral 'miraculously' grabs one tooth on its upper and lower jaw, then uses his incredible strength to force the wolf's mouth open. "Gaaahh?!" The Hellhound bites down with all its strength, but José grips the monster's upper and lower teeth with his bare hands, all while the muscles on his back pop with tremendous effort. "Aaaargh! S-stupid... MUTT!" Suddenly, José kicks off the wall and launches himself into the Hellhound's mouth, allowing its jaws to slam shut behind him. With his body illuminating the animal's jowls, he grabs hold of a sinewy strand of skin on the roof of its mouth and squeezes with all his might. The animal starts opening and closing its mouth to try and chew the human, but José holds on like a leaf in a windstorm, one that somehow tenaciously clings to its chosen tree branch. The moment José's teleportation module cools off, he taps the black band on his wrist, synthesizes a poisonous smoke grenade, and hurls it into the Hellhound's throat. "Here, breakfast!" Foop! José teleports out of the Hellhounds' snapping jaws to the wall again, then jumps away, reaching out his arm to his fallen gun. The weapon leaps off the ground and flies into his clutches, only a second before he smashes feet-first into the head of a blankly-staring Orc. Splort! José crushes the orc's skull and caves in its brains, using his insanely heavy body like a wrecking ball. In the blink of an eye, six orcs around him swing their swords and clubs at him, intending to bludgeon or slash him to death. Too bad, before their attacks connect, José drops to the ground, lands on his left palm, and throws himself toward the nearest orc feet-first, delivering a powerful kick to the monster's head. The sound of air whiffing past his hair as the other five orcs miss gives him no comfort. They stagger and chase after him, but José nets a clean escape, even as goblins pounce at him from the ceiling and walls. BOOM! The poisonous gas grenade José fed the Hellhound only moments before erupts inside its gullet, making the giant monster screech in pain. It yips and coughs, expelling deadly toxins into the air around it. Dozens of orcs and goblins inadvertently inhale the nerve gas, perishing before they can react to its rank, foul odor. Within seconds, the Hellhound loses its balance and falls on its side, tucking in its legs and head to repeatedly vomit the most dreadful, disgusting liquids and solids ever seen in the seven galaxies. Not long after, it stops moving, forever. José continues jumping and teleporting away, killing monsters by the dozens. His expression turns complicated as he shoots a glance at the Hellhound. I'd love to clear out this horde with more poison gas, but it's liable to reach Megla and the Kessu. I've unleashed too much already, as-is. Admiral Rodriguez swivels to face a cluster of goblins and orcs. However, when he presses his gun's trigger, the only response he gets is a clicking sound. [AMMO DEPLETED,] Booms a robotic male voice in the Admiral's mind. [ALL DILITHIUM FUEL EXPENDED. THE ADAPTIVE LIVING-MOLDANIUM COMBAT IMPLEMENT WILL NOW AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH TO ITS MELEE COMBAT FORM.] The powerful rifle in José's grasp rapidly alters its appearance. Like magic, the barrel of the gun flattens out and becomes razor-thin and ultra sharp. The gun's mass shifts toward its handle as it morphs into a one meter longsword, but a highly advanced version capable of slicing through steel with ease. [TRANSFORMATION COMPLETE,] The synthmind says. [SECONDARY MODE ONLINE. THE LONG-RANGE BIOLOGICAL ERASER CANNON HAS SUCCESSFULLY SHIFTED INTO ITS CLOSE-COMBAT NANOBLADE FORM.] José's gaze darkens. "Thanks, Centurion. Close combat against so many enemies... it's dangerous, but I don't have a choice." He glances behind himself, at the entrance to the Kessu's side-tunnel. Inside, not even 300 meters away, Megla stands protectively in front of the tiny kitty cats, her weapon trained on the entrance and ready for action. The Admiral returns his gaze to the monsters currently charging at him. Megla isn't familiar with the Long Range Biological Eraser Cannon. The LORBEC is more than capable of instantly killing me. If she shoots at an enemy when I'm close by, she might accidentally catch me in the cross-fire. That's certainly not the way I want to go out... not via friendly fire. In that case... I'll just have to ensure no monsters get past me. As the Orcs charge the Admiral, something inexplicable happens. For the first time since their struggle began, the human lunges forward, meeting them head-on in combat. A flash of light ignites in the air as the Terran's nanoblade hums with energy. The moment José swings it in any direction, kinetic energy builds up on its edge, tripling its sharpness. He cuts through three of his enemies before they can react, and his body becomes a blur as he accelerates beyond what should be any human's biological limits. Inside José's head, the synthmind, Centurion, speaks again. [ORION CORPS MUSCULATURE ENHANCEMENTS HAVE INITIATED ACTIVE COMBAT MODE. CEREBRAL COMPUTATION SPEED INCREASED BY 714%. MOVEMENT SPEED INCREASED BY 447%. STRENGTH INCREASED BY 183%. REACTION TIME REQUIREMENTS DECREASED BY 92%. TIME REMAINING BEFORE ACTIVE COMBAT ENHANCEMENT MODE MUST DISENGAGE FOR USER'S SAFETY: FOURTEEN MINUTES, FIFTY-EIGHT SECONDS!] "Come on, you filthy monsters!!" José roars. "My people killed yours long before we reached the peak of martial combat! Now, you're nothing more than BUGS to me!" His intimidating shout succeeds in startling the monsters around him, but their alarm turns to rage immediately after. As the Admiral's blade dances around, his body becomes even faster and faster, allowing him to rapidly adapt to the change in his combat capabilities. For the next five minutes, Admiral Rodriguez rampages unhindered. No matter who comes up against him, their body ends up diced into dozens of meat-blocks. The goblins never pose a threat to him, and neither do the orcs. Soon, the 'thousands' of monsters arrayed against the Admiral slow to a trickle. The several hundred that remain keep their distance and spread out, choosing to pelt him with arrows and javelins. The Admiral easily bats their slow, awkward, clumsy attacks out of the air, chopping apart the primitive projectiles with ease. Eventually, he slows to a stop, taking two precious seconds to scan the battlefield. José's vision sweeps in every direction. He picks out the goblins and orcs that remain, but none of them have made it past his bladestorm of destruction even once. Megla and the Kessu remain unharmed. "That's it?" The Admiral's hearts both beat at tremendous speeds. With the adrenaline pouring through his body thanks to the Orion Corps combat biomod, it takes all his effort to slow down his battle fury and think about what the hell is happening. "Where is it? These can't be all of the monsters lurking down here. There should be a hyper-intelligent enemy somewhere. An aberrant. Hellhounds, goblins, and orcs aren't anything special." He vocalizes his thoughts as a whisper, so his voice doesn't travel far. Even so, something stirs in the darkness behind José, above the entrance to Megla and the Kessu. A shadowy figure slowly shifts its position, gazing at José with pitch-black eyes. His hearts still beating furiously, the Admiral charges at another pair of orcs and begins cutting them down like meat in a blender. They scream in terror and piss themselves just before they die, but neither of the duo mounts even the weakest resistance to his superior battle prowess. At that moment, the shadowy figure attacks. It grips a heavy, steel rod, one colored pitch-black, just like its body. With the Admiral distracted by his continued killing frenzy, the shadow coils strength into its arm... and hurls the rod like a bullet! Whiff! In an impossibly speedy and precise manner, the rod sails straight toward José's back. The Admiral only gets a split second to react, but with no monsters behind him, he doesn't anticipate the sudden attack from his flank. RIIIIP!! The iron rod tears through José's skin and rips out one of his hearts while penetrating every defense in its path. The vicious implement passes through him like a bullet through wet paper and stabs halfway into the hardened rocky ground in front of his feet. Stunned and startled, the Admiral gasps in surprise and whirls to face his adversary. Thanks to the pain suppression biomod he installed after his surgery, José barely notices his missing vital organ. "Shit! Who's there?!" The Admiral frantically scans the darkness behind him. His eyes sweep across the spot where the shadow rested only a moment before, but even with his enhanced senses, he doesn't spot anything out of the ordinary. A feminine voice speaks from the shadows, its origin point seemingly coming from every direction at once. "Hehehe... silly human. Have you not figured out who I am, yet? Or, rather... what I am?" José's eyes dart to his left, toward a corner of the room where the wall and ceiling meet one another. He squints with all his might, but still doesn't notice anything out of the ordinary. A shiver runs down the Terran's back. It can't be. Seeing goblins, orcs, and a Hellhound was bad enough... but... surely, I must be wrong. "You..." The Admiral growls. "You're... a shadow-walker?" "Hah hah hah... that's quite the insult, little human." A faint movement directly overhead startles José. He looks up just in time to see the shadows move slightly, before another metal rod fires at him, this time aiming for his head! Swish! The Admiral moves with lightning reflexes. He smashes the flat of his sword against the rod, making it miss his head, but it still rips through his left shoulder. The Terran completely ignores the injury, even as his nanite-imbued body gets to work repairing both of his wounds. His rapidly-draining blood slows to a crawl, and new skin begins grafting between the injuries. "Not shadow walkers," José snarls. "You... you're a Shade! A god-damned Shade!" "Did you finally figure it out?" The female asks. "Wow, what a smart little fleshbag. I'll give you... two points. Haha. I have to say, your body looks quite delectable. Big muscles, a gaze that could make a woman swoon... it's been a while since I got to wriggle my tongue around inside a human's brain. Mmm. I'm shivering just imagining it." Another flicker of movement startles José. He readies himself for an attack from the back, but instead, all he sees is a shadow shifting slightly on the wall. A vaguely feminine figure appears, her body wreathed in so much darkness he can barely make her out. "So you are a Shade!" José growls. "Haha. It all makes sense now. You must have been the one controlling the monsters. Tch. You're one lucky little shadow-blob. After we humans wiped your species off the galactic map, we never knew one of you had survived. If we had, you'd have perished long ago." José holds up his sword in a defensive posture while keeping both eyes locked on the shifting mass of shadow. The Shade's face shifts to create a gigantic, horrifying smile. "Oh, you adorable little man. I love it when men toy with me and treat me like a slut. Let's spar a little longer. My name is Voluptuous. What's yours?" "Why even ask?" José asks. "Don't pretend like you don't know. You've been watching me since I arrived." "Clever boy." The Shade stretches out a hand and presses it against her mouth coyly. "That's right, José Rodriguez, Admiral of the starship Bloodbearer. I know quite a bit about you. I'm always fascinated by big, strong men. Tell me, handsome, what's it like being the last member of a dead species?" "You should know," José taunts. However, even as he utters those words, another sense of danger tingles in the back of his mind. "You've been slithering down here, all alone, for a hundred million years." Voluptuous melts into the wall, then reappears directly above José, allowing her to get a closer look at him. "Oh, yes, darling. You have me pegged well. I haven't tasted man-meat in sooo long. Come now, why not leave that ugly crocodile and the furballs behind? If you come willingly, I promise not to bite. I don't want to harm a hair on that perfectly chiseled face of yours, not until we've had our taste of each other. Mmm, that look you're giving me right now is making my feminine parts tingle, ahaha!" An odd smile appears on José's face. "Are you trying to seduce me? Pitiful. Maybe if I were my old pal, Nicky-boy, that might work. Too bad, I'm not. No demoness will ever be capable of tugging on my heartstrings." "Is that so? I doubt that, lover," Voluptuous replies. "No man can resist the allure of a beautiful woman, especially when he's been alone for so long." "It hasn't been long at all," José replies. "I got stuck in stasis for the last hundred million years. Strange, though. You should know that, unless your knowledge of me comes only from what you've observed in these tunnels." The Admiral's words make Voluptuous hesitate, but only for a moment. "Oh, I see! Haha. Indeed, I assumed you were awake the whole time, suffering and wallowing in your loneliness. Ah, but still... to awaken to a dead galaxy, one where all the others of your kind have long since ceased to exist... that must have been quite the tragedy." The Admiral's expression darkens. He squeezes his nanoblade's hilt a little tighter. "...You should know about that sort of loneliness too, 'Voluptuous.' Unless, of course... you aren't alone." Voluptuous falls silent. Her eyes narrow as she gazes at the human. "...Tsk. Too bad! I couldn't help myself. I let too many hints slip. Mmm, darling, your tongue truly is a weapon of legends! That's right... I'm not alone. But... are you ready to wet yourself in fear... little José?" As Voluptuous finishes speaking, the entire room begins to shift. José's final remaining heart jumps in alarm as ten, twenty, fifty, even a hundred shadowy balls begin congealing on the ceiling and walls. Countless blobs of darkness spread out and take shape, as numerous female voices begin speaking. "Ehehe! He's so scared! Look at that stupid expression of his! I'm gonna cut him to pieces, nyehehehe!" "Filthy human. You have only survived this long because of our curiosity." "This human is quite strong. Watch out for his tricks." Female voices of all tones and shapes begin speaking, draining the blood from José's face. Every second, countless other Shades begin materializing, making their numbers skyrocket to one hundred, three hundred, even one thousand! "What?!" José gasps. "So... so many?! How is this possible! I might expect one or two of you to survive... but this many?! It's imposs-" The words catch in José's throat as a truly horrifying realization comes to his mind. "No... no... it can't be. Shades aren't like other demons. You... you can't reproduce! The only way Shades can multiply is if... if..." José's eyes dart frantically around the room. He clenches his teeth together, then shouts at the top of his lungs. "Yama! Emperor of Shadows! Where are you?! Show yourself!" The human's words silence all of the females present. After a moment, a few of them begin to giggle. "Hehehe... well, since you asked for it, little human..." The Shades melt back into the walls and ceiling, becoming invisible even to José's advanced sensory and imaging technology. However, one blob of darkness, far larger and more intimidating than the others, rises up from the ground a hundred feet from José. It rapidly congeals into a ten-meter-tall ghostly black creature, one that hovers in the air without any legs. "Heh heh heh. Hello, José Rodriguez," The Shade says, its masculine voice standing out from all of the female Shades from before. "You called. We came. Aren't we polite? We never turn down an invitation to a party." José takes a step back. "You... you can't be alive. The ancient Terran records... they clearly noted your death date, and the method used! They trapped you, bombarded you with solar radiation-" "Mmm, yes, we remember that day well..." Yama says, his voice as cold as ice. "Pain. Suffering. Agony. If the humans had realized they only captured half of this humble emperor's body... if they knew we could split our essence into pieces, we might have perished forever. Too bad! We outfoxed the humans, but still... we suffered a terrible loss." Yama's voice becomes even icier than before. His size increases as rage appears in his shadowy eyes. "Filthy humans. You... you killed my women! All of them! Trapped them... tortured them... Greed, Envy, even Vicious! You forced this poor, forsaken Emperor to start from scratch... to build up our harem once again! It took us ages... countless years to reacquire women of suitable... purity." José's lips curl into a grimace. "I see. That's why... those female Kessu... you bastard! You stole them... turned them into your wretched little toys!" "We did," Yama answers, his voice emotionless. "Those Kessu were hardly capable of meeting our standards... but we must thank you, Admiral Rodriguez. You've delivered us two delicious, sumptuous little morsels... hehe. Not only a strong warrior who will resist our advances to the last breath, but a meek, timid kitten who won't fight back at all. We must compliment you on your respectfulness towards authority. Now, we have two high-quality females to ravish until the ends of time! Heh heh heh!" José's heart skips a beat. Megla... and Lele?! No! This filthy, shadow bastard! "You won't touch them!" José roars. "I don't care how many of you there are! I'm a human unlike any you've ever faced! I'll rip you to shreds, Devil!" José's skin brightens two times more luminously than before, transforming him into a light within the darkness. Yama immediately shrinks back, hiding within the shadows. "Tch. You know our weakness. So what? Your little glowy-skin tricks won't harm this king's magnificent body! The most you can do is burn us a little! Stupid human! You're only delaying the inevitable!" José's teeth gnash together as a rage he hasn't felt in years begins to boil his blood. "Don't tempt me, shadow demon! Go back to the shadows, or I'll make you face annihilation!" Inside José's head, the male synthmind, Centurion, speaks again. [TIME REMAINING BEFORE ACTIVE COMBAT ENHANCEMENT MODE MUST DISENGAGE FOR USER'S SAFETY: SEVEN MINUTES, FIFTY-NINE SECONDS!] This alarm causes the Admiral's eyes to turn bloodshot. Yama is trying to delay me! I won't let him off! The Emperor of Shadows levitates backward. His body fades into the darkness as he chuckles ominously. "Do not assume we know nothing of your methods, Terran. We have picked off countless human prisoners in the eras since our defeat. We know the advanced weaponry you possess. Try your hardest, but you will never defeat us. You will fall here. Your corpse will become our food, and your soul our sustenance... but your women will become our playthings! Heh heh heh!" A vicious smile spreads across José's face. He nods slowly, while glancing around the room at all the possible positions the Shades could be hiding. "Haha. Is that so? Is that SO?! Looks like you've put me in quite the dire position! Well, then... it seems I'll have to surprise you, your highness! This Terran... IS MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE!" ... The Admiral closes his eyes. After a few moments, a humming sound emits from his chest, and a faint blue light begins to cover his skin, one that vaguely resembles Megla's Survival Suit. However, unlike hers, this 'armor' causes Yama's soul to tremble. The Emperor of Shadows stares at the human. His arrogant grin fades away, and a faint feeling of fear appears in his eyes. Hm? That's... this sensation... it reminds us of the ancient legend... the Hero! Could it be?! Could this human actually be a reincarnation of the Hero?! Alarmed, Yama transmits an order to his harem. [Females! Do not hold back! This male is no ordinary human! He's a Hero! A Hero, we said! Kill him at all costs!] Their reply comes in the form of countless shadows emerging from the walls, all of them clutching iron rods. [Yes, Great Emperor! We will slaughter the human where he stands!] Next Part ....................................... Author Note: If you enjoy what you've just read, please consider subscribing to my Patreon!
